USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll ranked the Sooners at No. 6 just two weeks ago,

but the Sooners have lost two straight to open conference play for the second time in three years.

Even though OU was preseason favorites to win the Big 12,

an ineffective offense and a shockingly inept defense have doomed them to the bottom of the conference standings.

This sort of collapse is enough to raise eyebrows in the Bowl Subdivision,

especially given Venables' background as one of the top coordinators of the century
